AUGUSTA — The Augusta Community Warming Center is scheduled to open for the season on Dec. 16.

The warming center, located at 44 Front St., will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week until March 30.

The free service is operated by the United Way of Kennebec Valley with local partners.

People with limited finances using the center are welcome to have lunch at the Bread of Life Ministries soup kitchen down the street Monday through Saturday, according to a release from the United Way of Kennebec Valley. Organizations, churches and companies provide a noon meal for those using the warming center on Sundays.

The release said there are limited supplies of clothing and blankets available, and the staff can help with referrals to social services.
