Another independent candidate has filed signatures to run for Maine’s open U.S. Senate seat.
Andrew Ian Dodge, a tea-party activist from Harpswell, filed 4,183 valid signatures this morning, according to the Maine Secretary of State’s Office. Independent candidates need to submit at least 4,000 signatures by June 1 to qualify for the Nov. 6 ballot.

Dodge originally filed to run as a Republican against Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, but unenrolled from the party in February after criticizing its mishandling of the presidential caucuses that month. Snowe later announced her retirement, opening the door to a six-way GOP primary on June 12.
Dodge is the fourth independent candidate to qualify for the November ballot. Yarmouth Town Council Chairman Steve Woods and Danny Dalton of Bath filed signatures last week, and former Gov. Angus King filed his signatures Tuesday.
