AUGUSTA — A criminal charge resulting from a 2010 boat crash on Great Pond that left three people injured was dismissed Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court.

John P. Jabar Jr., 52, of Belgrade, who pleaded guilty a year ago to a charge of failing to operate a watercraft at prudent speed, withdrew that plea after completing the terms of a 12-month deferred disposition. A standard term of the agreement required Jabar to not engage in any criminal activity.

He donated $1,000 to the Waterville Boys & Girls Club and paid a $25 per month supervision fee, for a total of $300, so the district attorney’s office could keep tabs on him.

Jabar did not appear in court Monday, and the plea withdrawal was signed on his behalf by attorney James S. LaLiberty.

The accident, which was investigated by game wardens from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, occurred about 10:30 p.m., July 31, 2010, when Jabar’s 25-foot party boat struck a rock pile on the southern end of Oak Island in Great Pond.

The damaged boat was reportedly still there the following day.

Five people were on board the boat at the time of the accident, according to a department spokesman, who said Jabar was injured but refused medical treatment. Two passengers were treated and released from Inland Hospital in Waterville.

Justice John Nivison approved the dismissal on Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court.
