PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – Chubby Checker oversaw a twist contest and signed autographs as he mingled with patrons at a diner in Portsmouth, N.H.

Checker started the day on the WTSN 1270 AM Open Mic show in Dover on Wednesday morning. Its sister station, The Bay (98.7 FM), covered Checker live at the Roundabout Diner.

He was promoting a new single, “Changes.” The Portsmouth Herald reports during a question-and-answer session, a woman asked the 72-year-old Checker how he managed to not look a day over 29.

“I pray for my parts,” he said. “My heart and all the other things I have, some of which I can’t even see.”
