AUGUSTA — Central Maine Power Co. honored a number of businesses at a luncheon Monday for assisting the utility during the 2013 Christmas week ice storm.

Representatives from the following businesses were honored :

• Hannaford Supermarket, Cony Circle; the Senator Inn & Restaurant, and The Red Barn, all in Augusta;

• Bell the Cat, Comfort Inn and Nautilus Seafood & Grill, all in Belfast;

• MacLeod’s Restaurant, Bucksport;

• Kinney’s Construction, Searsport; and

• Packard’s Small Excavation, Union.

According to a press release about Monday’s event, the firms stepped in when other businesses were closed.

“This made storm recovery particularly challenging, as CMP still needed to secure certain goods and services to aid recovery and to meet the needs of crews working 17-hour shifts,” said the statement from Central Maine Power. “But the above businesses stepped up, their employees spent time away from their families, and with their help, CMP was able to accomplish a swift and safe recovery from the devastating storm.”
