AUGUSTA — The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of a fire that burned the exterior of a Fairfield Street home early this morning.
Firefighters were called to a single-family, single-story home at 11 Fairfield St. at 1:12 a.m.
They arrived to find heavy fire on the exterior wall of one side of the home, which is at the end of the street.
Battalion Chief John Bennett said firefighters extinguished the fire. He said it appeared to be contained to the outside of the building, which is covered in wooden shingles. He said the flames never entered the building.
No injuries to firefighters or the occupants of the house were reported.
The names of the residents were not immediately available. The owner of the home is listed as Stephen Gass on city property records. However Gass’ address on those records is not listed as 11 Fairfield St.
Bennett said the fire marshal was contacted because of the circumstances of the fire on the outside of the house.
Bennett said Central Maine Power, Augusta police, and firefighters from Gardiner, VA Maine Healthcare System-Togus and Winthrop responded with Augusta firefighters.
