Two independent gubernatorial candidates announced key members of their financial teams today.

Eliot Cutler of Cape Elizabeth tapped David Flanagan, former president of Central Maine Power and a 2002 independent candidate for governor, to be his campaign treasurer. Flanagan also worked as general counsel to the Senate’s Homeland Security Committee, investigating the government’s response to Hurricane Katrina.

He is currently CEO of Preservation Management Inc., a nationwide affordable housing service management company headquartered in South Portland. He also serves on numerous boards in the state.

Flanagan replaces Robert C.S. Monks, who has stepped down as treasurer. Monks is an investor in and a board member of MaineToday Media, which publishes The Portland Press Herald, the Maine Sunday Telegram, the Kennebec Journal and the Morning Sentinel, the weekly Coastal Journal in Bath and their respective websites.

Cutler also announced that businesswoman Marion Freeman of Freeport is the campaign’s new finance chair. Freeman is a director of Kepware Technologies, according to a release from the campaign.

In related news, independent candidate Shawn Moody of Gorham announced the members of his finance committee today. The committee includes Chris Moody, Danielle Moody, Jim Moody, Kim Moody, Gordon Scannell Jr., George Harrison and Dan Rollins.
