The Carolina Hurricanes signed Biddeford native Brian Dumoulin to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The 20-year-old Dumoulin, who helped Boston College win two NCAA national championships, will immediately join Carolina’s top minor-league affiliate, the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers.
“Brian is a big, puck-moving defenseman who achieved at a high level throughout his time at Boston College,” said Ron Francis, director of hockey operations for the Hurricanes. “His success there speaks for itself, and it is important for his continued development that he now begins his professional career.”
One of the youngest players in his draft class, the 6-4, 210-pound Demoulin was the Hurricanes’ second pick in the 2009 NHL entry draft.
