LEWISTON — A Bates College student who’s listed as a captain of the football team and a member of the lacrosse team is facing charges for allegedly bursting into a stranger’s home and knocking over the elderly resident.

Police say Mac Jackson was intoxicated when he began pounding on the 80-year-old man’s door at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Despite being told he was at the wrong home, police allege Jackson burst in and knocked the man to the floor. The man was taken to the hospital.

Jackson is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated criminal mischief.

The Sun Journal reports that he remained jailed Wednesday night on $2,500 bail. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.

The school’s website says Jackson is a junior biology major from Hood River, Ore.
