BANGOR — Bangor police say the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle and dragged about a half-mile was a local transient.

Police on Monday identified the victim as 43-year-old Larry Furbush.

Officers found Furbush near the entrance to a Hannaford supermarket at the Airport Mall at about 8 p.m. Saturday.

Police say it appears he was struck on Vermont Avenue about a half mile away, became trapped under the vehicle and was dragged.

The driver has been identified only as a New Brunswick, Canada, man.

WABI-TV reports that the death remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Police say the driver did not know someone was trapped under his vehicle and weather conditions, poor visibility and Furbursh’s dark clothing are considered factors.
