Additional details to be released Monday, police chief says

EAST MADISON — A 42-year-old Madison man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday night, after reportedly barricading himself inside a building on East Madison Road. “A person had contact with a boss and the boss called us and basically said he was going to do harm to himself,” Madison police Chief Barry Moores said Saturday afternoon. “We went to the scene; state police tactical team was called and he ended up with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a building out in East Madison.” Multiple agencies were on the scene at about 6 p.m., according to Maine State Police. The man was threatening to shoot at people and to burn down his home on East Madison Road, according to a previous report. Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said the man’s name has not been released. McCausland said the man committed suicide in an outbuilding at John’s Marina, located at 1397 East Madison Road. He said the man had some kind of a confrontation with a Somerset County deputy earlier in the day Friday. “He was threatening suicide and the tactical team was called,” McCausland said Saturday. “Prior to their arrival, he had shot himself, and I do not know the circumstances under which he was found.” Moores said there will be additional information available on Monday.
