AUGUSTA — A city man was arrested Friday and charged with injuring his then-6-month-old daughter last month when he allegedly shook the baby violently.

Kevin Michael Peaslee, 21, was indicted earlier Friday by a grand jury in Kennebec County on two charges of aggravated assault. He was taken to the Kennebec County jail and held in lieu of $25,000 bail. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.

Investigators say Peaslee severely injured Aleah May Peaslee on Dec. 21 in a Capitol Street apartment by shaking her violently and leaving her with multiple injuries, including severe brain damage and blindness, according to a news release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine State Police. Peaslee was arrested by state and city police.

The child, who was born in Augusta on June 15, 2013, according to published records, remains in Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Peaslee and his girlfriend, Ginny Trask, the mother of the baby, live in Windsor, McCausland said.
