911 hang-up in Waterville leads to assault, obstruction charges on Sunday

WATERVILLE — A man was arrested at Countryside Mobile Home Park and charged with obstructing a report of a crime and domestic violence assault after police responded to a 911 hang-up early Sunday morning.

According to a police report, Officer Chase Fabian arrested David M. Lamanteer, 50, after he went to an apartment on Patriots Drive in Countryside Mobile Home Park at 2:20 a.m. to investigate a 911 hang-up call.

Sgt. Dan Goss said police are still investigating and no further information is available at this time. Goss said a person is usually charged with obstructing a report of a crime in a domestic violence situation if a person is preventing another person from getting help. He said examples are taking or destroying a phone to prevent a victim from calling the police or some other emergency service.

Obstructing the report of a crime is a Class D crime with a maximum penalty of 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.   

Lamanteer is being held without bail at the Kennebec County Jail.
