4 Maine communities deemed 'business-friendly'

Under the LePage program, the communities will be given a certificate and road signs to tout the award.

AUGUSTA — Four more Maine towns and cities have been designated as "business-friendly" by the state.

Gov. Paul LePage says Ellsworth, Fairfield, Kennebunk and Topsham have made the cut. Since the program was launched in March, 18 communities have earned the designation.

Towns and cities that apply are evaluated on whether they have a business-friendly approach, have streamlined licensing and permitting requirements, and have reduced red tape.

Communities deemed as business-friendly are given a certificate and road signs to tout the award. They are also promoted by the state as being business-friendly.
