Four charged with drug violations

FARMINGDALE — A Belgrade woman and an Augusta man are among four people facing drug charges after police reportedly found dozens of bags of heroin during a traffic stop on Interstate 95.

The driver, Jalee Soucie, 21, of Belgrade, and a passenger, 22-year-old Eric Lee, of Augusta, were arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs. Two other passengers, Richardo Perry, 19, of Lancaster, Pa., and Shawnelle Morris, 26, of Tobyhanna, Pa., also were charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs.

Maine State Police Trooper Aaron Turcotte pulled Soucie over for an alleged a seat belt violation and following too closely. Turcotte, in an affidavit filed in Kennebec County Superior Court, said he searched the car after smelling marijuana. Turcotte reportedly found 35 bags of heroin in the trunk area.

All the occupants denied ownership of the drugs.

A judge set bail for each defendant at an initial court appearance Monday.
