The city needs to remove snow that has piled up in the downtown.

Gardiner Public Works is asking residents not to park in a portion of the Arcade lot starting at midnight so plows can remove snow.

Josh Nolls shovels snow in front of a state office building across from the State House on Thursday. Nolls and other Bureau of General Services employees had been working since early in the morning to get the capitol complex and other state offices ready for business the day after the government shut down early because of Wednesday’s snow storm that dropped about 9 inches in Augusta.

Residents and others are asked not to park in the Tiger Town end of the lot, and instead put their vehicles on the end closest to Dennis’ Pizza. Vehicles will be towed if they are in the way and vehicle owners will have to pay to get them back, according to a notice from the Gardiner Police Department.

Plows will remove snow overnight.
