AUGUSTA — Three city women face theft charges following a report of shoplifting at the Hannaford supermarket on Cony Street

Jennifer Rena Thibeault, 24, was arrested on charges of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, violating conditions of release and misuse of public benefits instrument after police responded to the 6:18 p.m. call Saturday.

Rachel McLaughlin, 30, was issued a summons charging her with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer; and Patricia M. Adams, 53, was issued a summons charging her with misuse of a public benefits instrument.

Maine law defines a “public benefits instrument,” misuse of which is a Class D crime carrying a penalty of up to 364 days in jail, as electronic benefits transfer cards, coupons and vouchers used to distribute funds from public assistance programs.


Saturday: At 4:55 p.m., police made an arrest following a report of a disturbance or disorderly conduct on Winthrop Street.

Sunday: At 12:18 p.m., a caller from Asset Real Estate Management, Civic Center Drive, reported harassment.

12:35 p.m., a caller from Maine Smoke Shop, Western Avenue, reported theft or shoplifting.

12:54 p.m., a Water Street caller reported a burglary.


Saturday: Ngel Akol, 26, of Augusta, was arrested in Augusta on an assault charge following an 11:34 p.m. report of a disturbance/disorderly conduct at Shenanigans, Water Street.
