Litchfield man charged with assault
AUGUSTA — A Litchfield man remained behind bars Friday, charged with attacking his girlfriend and threatening her in his Richmond Road home Thursday night.
Eric Edward Skidgell, 31, of Litchfield, was being held at Kennebec County jail on two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of domestic violence assault and domestic violence terrorizing.
A judge in Augusta District Court set his bail at $5,000 cash. An affidavit by Kennebec County Sheriff’s Deputy Derek Wing says the victim reported Skidgell strangled her and then hit her on the back of the head three times with a Yankee candle before smashing her head on an end table. He also threatened her if she said anything to her parents, Wing said.
Deputies found Skidgell in his basement bedroom where he had fled with a broken bottle and a knife.
Wing said Skidgell was extremely intoxicated.
Man recovering after struck by car
AUGUSTA — A Litchfield man hit by a motorist while walking on Civic Center Drive Wednesday night is recovering at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
David Nowlin, 66, of Portland was driving south on Civic Center Drive just north of the intersection with Bog Road at about 9:30 p.m. when his vehicle hit Joshua Byras, 27, of Litchfield, Augusta Police Department Officer Carly Smith said.
Witnesses reported seeing Byras walking in the road farther north on Civic Center Drive before the accident, Smith said.
She said Byras was wearing dark clothes, and it’s likely Nowlin didn’t see him. There’s no indication Nowlin was distracted or impaired, Smith said. She doesn’t expect criminal charges to be filed as a result of the crash.
Byras was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta and later to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Smith said.
A spokeswoman for the hospital said Friday afternoon that Byras is in fair condition.
