Hallowell officer OK after hitting deer

HALLOWELL — A town police officer escaped injury early Thursday morning when the cruiser she was driving hit a deer on Outlet Road.

Officer Kristal Clark was driving on Outlet Road around 1 a.m., when the deer ran in front of her cruiser, said Hallowell Police Chief Eric Nason. The impact caused an estimated $2,000 damage to the front end of the car, including the bumper and headlight, and cracked the windshield.

Clark was not hurt and the cruiser can be kept in service until it is repaired, Nason said.

There has been an increase in accidents involving deer in recent weeks. Nason urged drivers to use caution.

“They’ve been spotting a lot of them beside the road,” he said.
