14-foot pot plants lead to man's arrest

OAKLAND — An Oakland man was arrested Friday after police and sheriff’s officials found eight 14-foot marijuana plants growing at his home on Sunset Boulevard Cove, according to Capt. Rick Stubbert.

Alan Bolduc, 52, was charged with unlawful trafficking of the marijuana plants, which, when dried, would amount to between five and 10 pounds, Stubbert said. He said a pound of marijuana sells for about $2,000 on the street.

Bolduc also was charged with unlawful possession of drugs, as 40 methadone pills also were found in the home, located on a camp road off Smithfield Road on East Pond, Stubbert said.

Six officers from Oakland, one from Fairfield and two from Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office conducted the search around noon Friday, he said. They found four game cameras around the marijuana plants — cameras designed to photograph wildlife, but marijuana growers use them to catch thieves, Stubbert said.

“It’s been a couple-week investigation and led to execution of the search warrant,” he said. “This search warrant is a great example of agency cooperation.”

Bolduc was released from the Police Department on $5,000 unsecured bail, Stubbert said.

He is scheduled to appear in Kennebec County Superior Court Nov. 9, he said.
