Maine 13-year-old charged following school death threat

Police say the student scratched a message into the school's bathroom wall, which "stated that people would be killed" and "had a specific date."

ELIOT — A 13-year-old student at the Marshwood Middle School in Eliot has been charged with the misdemeanor crimes of terrorizing and criminal mischief after being accused by police of “scratching” a threatening note on the wall of the middle school bathroom.

Police Chief Ted Short said the student – he refused to say whether the person was a boy or girl – was charged Sunday following an investigation by police. The message was reported Jan. 7.

“The threat had a specific date (Jan. 15) and stated that people would be killed. This is a serious issue and threats like this should not be taken lightly,” Short said in a statement posted on the police department’s Facebook page.

Short credited witnesses, who came forth, with helping police solve the case.

“We cannot express how proud we are of the witnesses that came forward to bring this case to a successful conclusion,” Short said.

Short said police were able to determine that the student did not own a gun and has no access to guns.

Eliot police walked the halls of the school Tuesday to reassure teachers and students.
