Walkers raise more than $15,000

AUGUSTA -- The second annual Free to Breathe Walk held Nov. 6 raised more than $15,000 to benefit the National Lung Cancer Partnership which provides research grants, educational materials and support.

The event, hosted by chairwoman Deb Violette, featured Tracy Sabol from Channel 8 News Center as emcee; a reading by David Lanman; and speakers Dr. Bruce Johnson, director of Thoracic Oncology at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Crystal Nayock, research coordinator for the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program at Central Maine Medical Center, Augusta Mayor and State Senator Elect Roger Katz and a reading by Violette on behalf of Councilman Cecil Munson and Donna Galipeau.

Approximately 70 people participated in the event, which raised more than $15,000.
