AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta College of Arts and Sciences and the Senior College will offer the next in its Forum on the Future series from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the university’s Jewett Auditorium.

Habib Dagher, professor of Civil/Structural Engineering at the University of Maine at Orono and also at Bath Iron Works, will give a talk about Energy, Economic Growth and Jobs.

Dagher is also founding director of the university’s interdisciplinary AEWC Advanced Structures & Composite Center, which develops cost-effective high performance hybrid composite materials used in construction and researches alternative energy. The center recently received $15,000,000 for development of offshore wind energy off the Maine coast.

Dagher, who received his doctorate in structural engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1985 and holds two master’s degrees in engineering, has received the annual Distinguished Professor Award and the New England Board of Higher Education Excellence Award.

The event will also include a panel discussion with Dagher, Paul Kando, energy researcher and environmentalist, and Donald Voorhes, Natural Resources Council of Maine, moderated by Chuck Acker.

There will be intermission and refreshments. There is no cost and all are welcome. The forum has been designed to answer the questions, “What Kind of a World are We Leaving to Upcoming Generations” and “Is There Anything We Can Do About It?”

Forum on the Future tutorial Saturday

* “Understanding Electricity — From the Generator to You”

* Presented by Art Ray, an electrical engineering graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, and a planner with Central Maine Power Company.

* From 10 a.m. to noon, in Room 180 of Jewett Hall on the university campus.

* Topics will include the generation of electricity, transmission to substations, grid distribution and more.

* Free and all are welcome.
