Sidney seeks veterans' tales

Kennebec Journal Staff

SIDNEY -- The Sidney Historical Society has formed a veterans memorial committee to identify and recognize Sidney veterans and honor those who have served.

Veterans, their families and community members are asked to provide biographical data, reminiscences of service and stories of the lives they led after returning home.

The memorial committee would like to meet with veterans and interested community members to discuss current committee projects.

The organization seeks input on the following:

* Creating a memorial to honor all war veterans by expanding the small World War II memorial located in front of the Town Office.

* Compiling veterans' names and finding a way to display those names permanently.

* Discussing ways the community can continue to honor veterans, such as Memorial Day celebrations.

* Seeking ideas on an interview process in which students and committee members can speak with veterans and record stories.

The committee's next meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Town Office conference room.
