Kennebec Journal Staff

Noah Berlew, 12, of Pittston, left July 21 to participate in National Scout Jamboree, 100 Years of Scouting in Fort AP Hill, Va.

Enroute to the jamboree, Berlew and several other Maine Scouts making the trip will stop at Six Flags, The White House, the Smithsonian Museums and visit national monuments. In preparation for attending the jamboree, Berlew has collected more than 30 patches to trade with other Scouts.

At the jamboree, Berlew will have the opportunity to work on Merit Badges, meet other scouts, participate in a 5K walk/run, snorkel and scuba dive, and participate in a July 31 candle lighting ceremony that will be broadcast on the internet and television.

Berlew is a Life Scout in Troop 613 of West Gardiner. He recently completed his Eagle Scout project and is waiting for a Board of Review for Eagle Scout.
