Allen Mullins carries a U.S. flag Sunday while walking along the Kennebec River in Augusta, clad in a Superman outfit to raise awareness about the condition of U.S. veterans. Mullins, 28, said he started walking in January 2009, intending to visit every state capital, and has been to 17 so far. On Saturday night, he slept next to the Kennebec in a downtown gazebo when he arrived in Augusta after a four-day hike from Concord, N.H. Mullins, who hails from Georgia, said his costume was inspired by an episode of “Superman” and draws attention to his quest to supplement the Department of Veteran Affairs with a private foundation. He said his walk around the United States could take four years.
