The rankings are out, and three Maine colleges have made the top 100 "Cool Schools" as determined by the Sierra Club's magazine. Those are, according to the club, the colleges that are doing the most to shrink their carbon footprints and educate students about sustainability.

In fact, one Maine college, Bar Harbor's College of the Atlantic, made the top 10. The college is singled out for its "sustainable-business curriculum and an affiliated 'venture incubator'" that "encourage eco-entrepreneurs." It makes number nine on the list of 162 schools that were rated on a 100-point scale. The 162 schools rated, according to the Sierra Club, were those that returned the nonprofit organization's survey.

In Maine, the Club's magazine puts Bowdoin College at 46 and Colby College at 71.
