Players miss tournament games for many reasons, but usually those involve injuries. When the John Bapst girls took on top-ranked Presque Isle Saturday afternoon, one of Bapst's top players, sophomore center Abby Pyne, not only wasn't at the Auditorium, she apparently wasn't in the country.
"She went to Spain to play soccer, I believe," Bapst coach Mike Webb said. "I don't really know when the commitment was made."
Pyne played in the preliminary round game as Bapst defeated Oceanside. It's highly doubtful she would have a difference in the outcome against Presque Isle, which won 86-31.
Asked directly when he knew Pyne would not be playing on Saturday, Webb said. "Not positive. I'd just as soon you talk to Abby Pyne and Dr. Pyne about what her commitments are."
