The Capital City Hoop Classic, scheduled for Dec. 27-28 at the Augusta Civic Center, features several good high school matchups.
Six girls teams — Gardiner, Camden Hills, Mountain Valley, Oxford Hills, Boothbay and Cony — will play Dec. 27. Each team will be guaranteed a minimum of two games with a championship scheduled for 8:15 p.m. A featured matchup pits Cony and Gardiner against one another at 4:15 p.m. The teams no longer play during the regular season.
The boys tournament on Dec. 28 includes Gardiner, Brunswick, Bangor, Dirigo, Lawrence and Cony and follows the same format as the girls tournament. The first three games of their tournament, beginning with Gardiner vs. Brunswick at 9 a.m., are all good ones. That game is followed by Bangor against Class C Dirigo and Cony vs. Lawrence. Cony and Gardiner are not scheduled to meet unless they each reach the championship game.
