The field for the Class A East playoffs is almost set. Only one spot, the eighth and final seed, is up for grabs, and Brunswick and Cony are in contention for the last bid.
Cony (8-9) takes on Erskine (2-15) on Thursday, while Brunswick (8-9) plays Morse (0-17). Assuming both Cony and Brunswick win, their playoff fate will be determined by the winner of the Mt. Ararat/Oxford Hills game.
Cony and Mt. Ararat split a pair of games this season, while Brunswick lost to Mt. Ararat twice. So if the Eagles beat Oxford Hills, Cony will pick up enough points to pass Brunswick and claim the No. 8 seed. If Oxford Hills, a team that lost twice to Brunswick win, then the Dragons are headed to the Augusta Civic Center.
The top four spots — Bangor, Hampden, Edward Little and Mt. Blue — are set.
If Lewiston (9-8) upsets Edward Little (16-1), the Blue Devils jump to fifth place. If the Red Eddies win that rivalry game, then Lawrence (9-8) takes fifth with a win over Messalonskee (6-11). Otherwise, Mt. Ararat (10-7) takes fifth place with a win over the Vikings (6-11).
