Cony senior wide receiver Nick Lucas has practiced all week and is “ready to go,” Coach Robby Vachon said Wednesday night.
Lucas has been sidelined with a right ankle injury he suffered in the season opener against Mt. Ararat in Topsham.
The 6-foot-1 wideout is a favorite target of Cony quarterback Luke Duncklee and should help stabilize the passing game.
“We’re excited to have him back,” Vachon said. “We missed his energy and what he brings to the table. He’s just excited to be back out there. We had game-planned not to have him. It feels different having him back; it’s like a gift.”
Vachon added that Lucas attended every practice to keep himself at least mentally in tune with the team.
“He soaked up all the knowledge,” Vachon said. “The kids did a great job without him, but he opens things up for us. He adds a different element for us. He’s a big, physical receiver.”
Cony (3-3) hosts Lewiston (5-1) on Friday night.
