It’s only week 1 of the high school football season, but it’s not too early to start talking about the Fitzpatrick Trophy. In January, one senior football player will be honored for his achievements this season.
Here is a list of possible candidates, in alphabetical order.
Luke Duncklee, Cony: The Rams quarterback might be the best throw/run threat in the state.
Peter Gwilym, Cheverus: A quarterback/safety, Gwilym is one of the leaders of the resurgent Stags.
A.J. Larrabee, Mt. Blue: Larrabee led the Pine Tree Conference in receptions last season.
Joe Seccareccia, Bangor: As good a quarterback Seccareccia is, he’s even better in the defensive secondary.
Imadhi Zagon, Portland: The Bulldogs star running back enters the season as the top back in the SMAA.
Gary Hawkins has worked at the Kennebec Journal since 1980. His primary beats are baseball, boys basketball, girls and boys soccer and golf.
