A pair of local athletes were honored by the North Atlantic Conference.
Messalonskee graduate Mary Badeen, a freshman at Maine Maritime Academy, was named the conference women's basketball rookie of the week. She earned the same honor from the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches' Association. She had 12 points and six rebounds against UMF, then made a school-record seven 3-pointers on her way to 26-points vs. Johnson State.
Meanwhile, Maranacook graduate Ben Johnson, a junior at the University of Maine at Farmington, was named the men's basketball player of the week. Johnson shot 71 percent from the field and averaged 25.0 points and 11.5 rebounds as UMF beat MMA and Thomas. He scored 25 points on 12 of 17 shooting vs. MMA and 25 points on 10 of 14 shooting vs. Thomas.
