CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The University of Maine field hockey team was picked to finish third in the America East preseason poll.
The Black Bears went 16-4 last season, their best finish since 1996 and were third in the conference.
Boston University was selected to win the conference, receiving 23 total votes, including three first-place votes. BU, which finished second last season, was followed by Albany, which earned 22 total votes, including three first-place votes. Defending conference champion New Hampshire was picked fourth.
Last year, the Black Bears earned a No. 10 ranking in the national polls and finished 17th in the country. They return 11 players, including America East co-Rookie of the Year Holly Stewart.
