HARTFORD — The University of Maine women’s basketball team was selected to finish ninth in the America East Preseason Poll, which was announced Thursday at the 2011 America East Tip-Off event at Connecticut State Capital.

The University of Maryland-Baltimore County, the defending regular season champ, was picked to finish first with a total of 60 votes. Boston University was second with 56 votes, followed by Hartford, the 2011 tournament champ.

Maine finished 4-25 last season, including 2-14 in the conference. The Black Bears return seven letterwinners under first-year coach Richard Barron.
