MOUNT VERNON -- The father of Jonathan and Thomas Bridgham, both American soldiers who have served in Iraq, said he is proud of his two boys.
Kenneth Bridgham, owner of Maine Electric Service in Mount Vernon, said he doubts some people realize the sacrifices soldiers and their families have made for the daily liberties they enjoy, or how the war is affecting the "unsung heroes, those fathers, mothers brothers and sisters in the background," he said.
U.S. Army Sgt. Thomas Bridgham, 22, served twice in Iraq with the 618 Equipment Support Company Combat Airborne.
He currently is stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
Jonathan Bridgham, 28, a 1998 Cony High School graduate, served 14 months and is now stationed in Germany.
"We were recently visiting them in Fort Bragg and I heard a lot of stories of people being killed or injured over there," Bridgham said Monday.
"A lot of families are going through a very hard time. People just don't think about it in their daily lives. There's a war going on. People are dying. You only have to go to the army posts (to know what's happening). It's real."
Thomas Bridgham and his wife Kaitlyn -- his high school sweetheart -- have an 8-month-old daughter, Grace.
Jonathan Bridgham is married. His wife, Valerie, also serves in the U.S. Army. They have two sons, Hunter and Trevor.
